The Elevisite Corpse:
Spring 2012

I was going through some images on my desktop and came across these from an installation a did when I was in school. Our Art Department's elevator has, since I first became a student, been "suffering" from layers and layers of graffiti. To remedy this, the Department decided to rent it out as an exhibition space. I jumped at the opportunity because this elevator, so old, tiny, and creepy, is so characteristic of our Department, and is used by nearly every artist at the University (the department lies on the 6th & 7th floor).

I, personally, loved the graffiti. I thought of the elevator as a wonderful creative space, regardless of legality. I didn't want to change this, but channel that energy into a more intentional space. Thus: the Elevisite Corpse, which is just a play on words modeled after the Exquisite Corpse game, an experiment played by the Surrealists where different people draw different parts of a creature's body. The result is a bizarre collaboration. Enjoy!
