New Hands Day!

Just two days before the museum opens, and we're giving the puppets new hands. Afterwards, I did stylish photoshoot of the puppets and their fancy new hands (some got new necks, too!)

Obsession Over Flowers

The last three days we've been obsessively stencil-painting flowers on the floor of the main room in our museum-to-be. Hours and hour, bending over and dabbing. Needless to say, after the first three hours we began hating those flowers. 72 hours later...

Animation Film Festival

What do you take pictures of at a film festival? According to my friend Ruut, it's "super no-no" to take pictures of the actual films. Luckily, the town it was in, Třeboň, was super beautiful anyway.

Inspired by Miró

When I visited Barcelona in early April, we saw the Fundació Joan Miró, a fabulous museum honoring the master. Jonas and I literally ran from gallery to gallery, oohing and ahhing, filled with such awe and inspiration! Wow!

When I got to Czechland I made this little painting in honor of the great Miró

Dolls, pt 1

Lately I’ve beent thinking a lot about dolls. Beautiful, hand-held figures that delight, comfort, and inspire us. Here are a few that are inspiring me.
I find so much inspiration from Etsy. This beautiful monster was created by Debi van Zyl. You can visit her website here.

A Swedish Dalecarlian horse, a traditional hand-carved and painted statuette that was a toy for poor Swedish children. You will find the same red paint on all the traditional farmhouses in Sweden.

Hopi Kachina dolls are effigies that embody the characteristics of the ceremonial Kachina, the masked spirits of the Hopi Native American tribe. According to the Hopi, Kachina dolls are objects meant to be treasured and studied, and are not to be considered idols of worship or children’s toys.

RoyalMint is one of my favorite shops on Etsy. This Montreal artist makes wonderful tiny felt dolls that have such detail and personality (and such beautiful photographs!) Find her work here.

This doll comes from a Postsecret card. The French text reads "I'm so scared." A sad thought but a beautiful doll.

Grosetto, Italy

I’m not so good at keeping a blog, especially since I’ve been so distracted by this whole “seeing the world” thing. I’m hoping to be better, and have a stockpile of things to post. But for now, here’s a picture of Jonas and me at a farm we volunteered at near Grosseto, Italy.

Happy May Day!

Free day off! But hopefully you all remember what May Day is truly about. Two things that are very important to me: nature spirituality and worker's rights.
At first it seems odd to me these two ideas are paired together, but at the end, these things are really about dignity and respect, right? With the added, hell yeah, summer's coming!!!
